Fifth Avenue is a major thoroughfare in the center of the borough of Manhattan in New York City, New York, United States. The section of Fifth Avenue that crosses Midtown Manhattan, especially that between 49th Street and 60th Street, is lined with prestigious shops and is consistently ranked among the most expensive shopping streets in the world. The "most expensive street in the world" moniker changes depending on currency fluctuations and local economic conditions from year to year. For several years starting in the mid-1990s, the shopping district between 49th and 57th Streets was ranked as having the world's most expensive retail spaces on a cost per square foot basis. In 2008, Forbes magazine ranked Fifth Avenue as being the most expensive street in the world. Some of the most coveted real estate on Fifth Avenue are the penthouses perched atop the buildings.
Fifth Avenue originates at Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village and runs northwards through the heart of Midtown, along the eastern side of Central Park, where it forms the boundary of the Upper East Sideand through Harlem, where it terminates at the Harlem River at 142nd Street. Traffic crosses the river on the Madison Avenue Bridge. Fifth Avenue serves as the dividing line for house numbering in Manhattan. It separates, for example, East 59th Street from West 59th Street. From this zero point for street addresses, numbers increase in both directions as one moves away from Fifth Avenue, with 1 West 59th Street on the corner at Fifth Avenue, and 300 West 59th Street located three blocks to the west of it.
What's in Store | Masion Kitsune. Now a fully fledged brand stocked in all the right places (Colette,Opening Ceremony, 10 Corso Como, et al), with collaborations with all the right people (André Saraiva, Pierre Hardy, et al), the Maison recently expanded on the retail front by opening its first North American store in the ground floor of the NoMad Hotel at Broadway and 28th Street in Manhattan. What's in Store | Giorgio Armani. It was to be our “Pretty Woman” moment: four stories of unbridled luxury nestled on the corner of Madison Ave and 66th Street; two young men’s-wear enthusiasts from way, way downtown with permission to run wild. Our target was the newly renovated Giorgio Armani boutique on the Upper East Side, which opened on Feb. 15 with much ado and for good reason. The airy space has all the characteristics of a luxury brand flagship: textured Marmarino walls and ceilings, custom Armani/Casa furniture and fixtures, large windows, changing rooms bigger than your bedroom and a constant stream of older, moneyed men and women who don’t even flinch at the hefty price tags ($945 for a pair of jeans, $4,000 for a jacket, $500 for a button-down shirt). What's in Store | Moncler. Moncler is an Italian company of French origin, best-known for its puffers and skiwear, so obviously their clothes have that warmth factor. We were shooting in temperatures hitting the mid-30s and I felt as toasty as if I was sitting on Bondi Beach. Then there’s the feel — I literally had to stop myself from running my hands all over the down-filled nylon vests (people were beginning to stare). The tweeds are thick and rigid, and the down feels just like baby ducklings nudging you with their tiny wings. All that might be irrelevant if the vests and coats didn’t look so damn good, but they really, really do. Courtesy New York Times.
